Atelier Smeijsters specialises in the design and crafting of exclusive, hand-made jewellery. I represent powerful aesthetics and an elegant style. The essence of Atelier Smeijsters is respect for traditional craftmanship and goldsmithing.

In the workshop I work on every single piece of jewellery with a great deal of commitment. All pieces of jewellery are crafted with love, attention to detail and the best materials. Your wishes are always the top priority.

Bring your idea to life
The most important factors when designing a piece of jewellery are the perfect combinations of precious metals and gemstones, in order to create a perfect piece that really suits you.

I draw inspiration from all aspects of life. Every piece of jewellery is the result of precise craftmanship and the belief that they can only be genuinely beautiful when they’re made with passion.

The making of jewellery is an honourable task and for me it’s important to feel the commitment in doing so.

I’d love to help designing a unique piece of jewellery that can translate my powerful aesthetics and craftmanship into your ideas and wishes, with the aim of creating a specially made piece of jewellery with lasting value, for generations to come!
APPOINTMENT
Are you excited about a certain idea, looking for advice or have you seen a piece of jewellery that you’d like to have yourself or want to give to someone special? I’d love to help with the design or adaptation of existing styles or create something completely new.

During a first appointment I usually go over all the possibilities, discuss your wishes, and provide professional advice. Depending on the complexity of the piece, it’s possible to arrange a second appointment during which we can focus on certain choices, like the use of a rare gemstone. Remember to account for a turnaround time of about 6-12 weeks. Please feel free to contact me to discuss the possibilities if this time frame doesn’t suit you.

In preparation of your appointment, it’s a good idea to form a clear idea of the type of jewellery you’re looking for. Think about the types of gemstones, shapes, colours and materials you’d like to use.

Not around? I also work on-site and remotely with the help of e-mail, video calls, photos and videos to help you make the best choices.

BIO

Solid Élégance
Solid Élégance, a necklace made out of silver, which I designed at Van Tol & Breet. This was quite a challenge, especially the clasp based on a door handle mechanism. This type of clasp is like a door handle that’s pushed downwards. Thanks to the built-in spring, it always jumps back to the latched position. Almost a kilo of silver was used for this piece, and it took me six weeks to complete this special creation.

As of 2010 I’m a proud member of the Dutch Guild of Goldsmiths. Craftmanship is at the heart of this guild, and it’s all about the skills to deliver high-quality work. This is possible due to the sum of technical skills, know-how, love and passion for the craft and the desire to keep developing yourself in your profession.

In 2020 I decided it was time to combine my experience and passion in a new endeavour: Atelier Smeijsters. Quality, reliability, sustainability and attrative, timeless designs are synonymous with Atelier Smeijsters. Pieces of jewellery that should last a lifetime.
At a young age I started working with precious metals. Together with my father, Jean Jacques Smeijsters, as a child I forged my own fishing blinker. Now, I’m following in the footsteps of my father, who represents the Dutch brand NOL Sieraden.

I was taught the fundamentals of the profession as a goldsmith at the vocational institution Vakschool Schoonhoven, after which I did several traineeships in Gouda en ‘s-Hertogenbosch, among other places. After graduating and completing my traineeships, I was offered a job at Van Tol & Breet in 2009. Here I was able to expand my knowledge and develop my skills under the guidance of René van Tol, one of the founders of the Dutch Guild of Goldsmiths (Nederlands Gilde van Goudsmeden).

The connection between father and son

NOL Sieraden is one of the few large workshops in the Netherlands fully specialising in the design and production of exclusive, hand-made jewellery. NOL was founded in 1964 and has made an impression in the past 30 years with a wide variety of jewellery, from extravagant head-turners to visionary classics, made for eternity. De collections of the Dutch jewellery workshop NOL Sieraden combines sleek design and solid elegance in a rich diversity.
In 2010, Juwelier Wolters came into focus. This is a leading, young and growing company where I had the chance to further develop my skills, both as a goldsmith and a designer. This was also where I realised that being able to design and work as a goldsmith is a real treat, also because of the opportunity to work there with the most beautiful precious metals, diamonds and coloured stones. The result was a close collaboration with Wietse Wolters, both in the shop as in the workshop, always accompanied by a great atmosphere.
This stage in my career laid the solid foundation for being able to start my own company as a goldsmith and designer of jewellery.
